OpenSuse 11.0 on DVD from the XePhi Store

XePhi is pleased to announce that the newest release of OpenSuse, version 11.0, is now available to buy from the XePhi store for only £6.00. OpenSuse 11.0 is supplied on a DVD which makes it possible to supply a lot more software during the initial installation. This extra space allows the OpenSuse 11.0 DVD to include a choice of graphical user interface. In addition to the easy to use Gnome interface, the tried and tested KDE3 desktop that has been hugely popular with businesses and the newest KDE4 desktop is also included for those looking to upgrade. The OpenSuse series have been popular with home users and businesses of all sizes for a long time and it has proven itself to be a very reliable platform.

Ubuntu 8.04.1 CDs Available

Ubuntu 8.04.1 is now available to buy from the XePhi store as a Live CD. This is the first major update to the Hardy Heron series and represents a small but significant group of bug fixes and improvements that make the installation process and first steps even better than before.

Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) CDs now shipping

Ubuntu 8.04 is now available to buy from the XePhi store as a Live CD. The 8.04 Ubuntu Linux release also known as Hardy Heron is a Long Term Support (LTS) release. LTS releases will have regular updates and patches available for the next 5 years for the server software and 3 years for desktop software. This makes it the perfect release for businesses and cautious users unsure about making the switch.

Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) continues to impress us. We are now offering Gutsy Gibbon as standard on all our laptops. As usual if you want any other operating system installed you just need to ask and usually there is no extra charge.

Until now the only way to get Ubuntu through the XePhi website was to buy a full PC. We're happy to announce that now you can also purchase Ubuntu and Kubuntu in both 32-bit and 64-bit varieties directly through the website.

Linspire partners with Ubuntu

Linspire have announced that they will be switching the core of their system from Debian to Ubuntu. Ubuntu itself is based on Debian so this move will give Linspire more time to concentrate on improving the user experience rather than trying to keep up with all the latest enhancements. Freespire will also be switching after the release of Ubuntu 7.04 with a release expected only a few weeks later. Linspire is expected to release version 6.0 of their famous system within a couple of months.

Canonical have released Ubuntu and Kubuntu 7.04 also known as the Feisty Fawn. With this release the Linux desktop gains every improved security, easier configuration and visual effects that will astound. Unlike older operating systems that struggle to provide the 3D desktop, this release requires only modest hardware whilst still providing a smoother experience and long term upgrade path.
